“Prometheus” R&D Institute is a joint subdivision of Kazan National Research Technical University named after A.N. Tupolev and the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan Republic. The Institute offers laboratories, workshops and a demonstration hall. The Academy of Sciences provides funding for the conducted research.
Research areas embrace the following:
- - Studying “experimental aesthetics” based on combining: a) theoretical prognoses; b) creation of the necessary technical instrumentation; c) artistic experiments for checking and correcting initial theoretical prognoses;
- - Developing and studying the following genres and styles: light music, abstract (light music) movies; spatial music; musical slide-films; light architecture; theatrical outdoor performances “Sound and Light”; laser graphics; video-art; conceptual art; computer-graphics and animation; multi-media, etc. ;
- - Studying the interrelation of aesthetics and psychology: synesthesia (color hearing), interaction of arts, “music-architecture”, “music-ornament” analogies, perception of gravitation in music, consistent Gestalt-patterns in music and in visual arts, interrelation in an “artist-technology” system, creation of controlled audiovisual environment of functional use (for the purposes of scientific organization of labor, engineering and space psychology, etc.);
- - Conducting experiments in drawing music, computer transformation of graphics into melody, computer analysis of folk music, computer harmonization of melody.
